History

Montessori School of Fort Myers was founded in April 1969, by a dedicated group of parents who saw the need for a Montessori education for their children.  The first class opened in September 1969, in what was then called “The Little Green House,” located on Colonial Blvd.  The present location on Crystal Drive was built in 1962 as a model home for the Villas neighborhood before serving as the Villas Kindergarden in the late 1960’s.  We purchased the building in 1973 and opened our first class with 36 students.  In 1989, we built a large addition which tripled the size of the school to 5,000 ft2 and room for 92 students.  The school has always offered classes for toddlers (18-36 months) and primary age (3-6 years old) students and in many years we offered an elementary class that went through 6th grade.  Currently, we have five classrooms: one infant (6 weeks – 18 months), two toddler (18-36 months), and two primary (3-6 years) classrooms.
