Primary Environments (3-6 Years), preschool and kindergarten

Montessori kindergartner math work

Highlights

The Primary program at Montessori School of Fort Myers provides a relaxed yet stimulating environment where children ages 3-6 years can develop and learn at their own pace, in a non-competitive atmosphere.  The result is that the child develops a love of learning, a positive self-image and a sense of self-direction, which together form a strong foundation for future growth. The Montessori curriculum at the primary level draws the child into all areas of learning through enticing lesson plans and didactic materials in several academic and everyday living skill areas.  The children in a Montessori class will experience work in the Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, geography and Science areas.  They will further their learning through working in the garden and participating in special classes (depending on availability) such as Spanish, Art and Music which are all an integral part of our schools curriculum.

Assessment & TEST Scores

While our school doesn't place a strong emphasis on testing, we do conduct two 20 minute assessments per year for PreK4 students and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills for Kindergartners at the end of the school year.  We recognize that allowing parents to see our class average academic test scores creates a level of comfort and confirms what our staff already know - that properly implemented Montessori is the strongest academic curriculum available.  Take a look at the outstanding academic performance of our PreK4 students.

Scope & Sequence

We follow the Montessori Foundation / International Montessori Foundation's scope and sequence which makes up the bulk of our total curriculum.  This scope and sequence is tracked in our record keeping software, Montessori Records Express (MRX), and progress reports are given to parents twice per year from MRX.
